Big-time Rolex Explorer fan clocking in for duty here. Therefore, I take notice of watches that are thematically similar. When we think of the Black Bay series, it＊s the divers that frequently come to mind. However, there are a really nice series of smooth-bezel models existing in 31, 36, 39, and 41mm case sizes. Up until recently, though, these models were amongst the last Tudors with third-party movements. For now, the steel pieces will remain that way, but the Black Bay Steel & Gold models get an update to in-house powerplants. I know that the ※Root Beer§ GMT and the new Pro will garner most of the rolex crowns looks, but these new ※base§ models are worth a real look.
This dial is constructed from German silver with a PVD black coating. Hands and hour markers in white gold are filled with white luminescent lume. The luminescent coating is also applied to the large date, GMT disc, counters and the large date. The different functions are indicated by the hints of colour. The yellow color is for GMT functions, while the red accents are for chronograph functions.
The Seiko Presage SSA445 also takes the form of a pre-existing model from the equally named line. However, the all-new dial and Komparu seconds hand, exclusive to the limited edition, make this quite an appealing new addition to the lineup. Featuring the Seiko caliber 4R39, the watch has a 24-hour indicator as well as an open-heart display on the dial side. Both of these elements interrupt the cobblestone pattern, but also help provide depth and dynamism to the dial. The boxed Hardly crystal is surrounded by a black rotating bezel, giving this watch an fake submariner overall sportier look, matched by its 40.8mm steel case.
All three options are lovely, and I genuinely have no idea which one I like the most. Initially, I loved the orange rubber strap on the DLC case with a titanium bezel. Then I began to sway towards the model which comes on a wonderful deep blue fabric strap. More recently, I seem to be leaning towards the full titanium watch with the matching bracelet. I think that if I ever add this watch to my collection, I＊ll certainly end up getting at least one extra strap!

I find the black of the Heritage Ranger＊s dial is rich; it sort of absorbs your gaze. This is in contrast to the newer Tudor Ranger, which, to my eyes, has a much flatter and less dynamic dial.
